If you must select just one word to describe Ed Thompson and his photography, “versatile” would be it. Ed would rather let his images talk, so we will make this a brief background description. He studied the basics of color, design, painting and drawing, and a little 3D in ceramics.
Realizing his talents for photography in his teens he soon became serious, applying them to yearbooks and occasional local news coverage. Journalism was a natural fit, and Ed landed his dream job shooting for The Sunday Magazine of The Atlanta Journal & Constitution. Feature photojournalism opened the doors to politicians and movie stars, captains of industry and murderers. Assignments literally carried him from boardrooms to death row. He covered the personalities and the characters making news from the South across the country for six years. These assignments honed his skills to immediately put his subject at ease, assess a situation quickly, determine the best angles and capture the images with both an economy of time and equipment. His disciplines were not limited to location shoots, but included lighting and large format studio work. Those tricks of the trade and his skills translated well to the world of corporate literature when Ed established his own business in 1982.
For more than 20 years, Ed has been meeting the needs of Fortune 500 companies. Examples of his clients include industry leaders in beverage, energy, golf and agriculture. He also readily accepts editorial assignments from clients in those same industries.
